The Simple Pleasures

I can still smell your enchantment,
Those turquoise eyes that I wish for
To gaze into everyday of my life.
This is what I can only wait to know
How you came to me inside this day.
To say, “Hello” as the sun dances over,
In and around our very moment
Illuminating all that I know to be true—
And everything I still can’t believe.
You are my simple pleasure—
To behold,
Still wishing to hold you,
As the sun begins to nap.
The cold is all encompassing,
And with it my feeling is no longer
Part of who I am.
The smell of your hair,
The feel of your hands
So fresh in my mind.
Brings tears to my eyes to know
That I have lost you
Among the ones I fear
And hate,
As you fade from the dream
Where you are my own.
